Wilmington Renaissance Corporation (WRC) is bringing the party back to the Barclays Crescent Building with the CityLife Awards on Thursday, Nov. 20 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Winners in five categories honoring unsung champions of Wilmington have been chosen, and they will be honored at the event. In addition to showcasing the CityLife Award winners, the evening will include live music, food, drinks and a silent auction.

Wilmington After Work
 
Stay downtown tonight after work from 5 to 7 p.m.! Book signing downtown
 
The Ninth Street Book Shop will host two Delaware authors as they sign books today from 3 to 4:40 p.m.
 
Author-Journalist Nancy E. Lynch offers Vietnam Mailbag, Voices From the War:  1968-1972, a new full-color, 460-page book including nearly 900 letters, photos and memorabilia from Delaware Vietnam veterans who corresponded with her Vietnam Mailbag column.  The column was published for five years during the height of the war in The (Wilmington, Del.) News Journal.  The compilation of letters and text is believed to be the largest single collection of its kind from the Vietnam era.
 
Ellen Rendle's current book included in the book signing is Historic Photos of Delaware, a journey into the state's rich history through photos and text about New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties.  Rendle is the Curator of Maps and Photographs at the Delaware Historical Society.

First & Central Fall Concerts
 
First & Central Presbyterian Church will hold a concert on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 12:30 to 1 p.m.
 
The performer will be Siora, the group will take the audience on a jazz journey throughout the world with singer Phyllis Chappelle and pianist Dan Kleinman.

The church is located at 1101 Market Street in downtown Wilmington and admission free but a $2 donation is encouraged.
Celebration of Life Through Music
 
Celebration of Life Through Music, an opera and musical fundraising concert to benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition's programs to help underinsured individuals facing breast cancer, will be held on Friday, Nov. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Opera Delaware Studios.
 
Esther Lovlie, soprano with Opera Delaware and a breast cancer survivor, created the event after witnessing women who, though having medical insurance, were being faced with large treatment bills not covered under their insurance.
 
The concert will feature renowned musical artists Robert Demers, David du Pont, Anne Marie Dupre, Jan Clairmont, Esther Lovlie, Opera Delaware Chorus and Wilmington Children's Chorus.  Each will be performing popular selections from famous Operas and Broadway musicals. 
 
A minimum ticket donation of $25 is requested and includes concert and catered dessert by Harry's Savoy and Grill.

Delaware Art Museum
 
The Delaware Art Museum will offer a story reading on Friday, Nov. 21 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $3 per child and the story is Squanto's Journey: The Story of the First Thanksgiving by Joseph Bruchac.
 
In addition, the museum currently is exhibiting The Invented Worlds of Alida Fish from now to Feb. 8. It features 31 photographs by the Delaware Division of the Arts' 2008 Masters Fellow in Visual Arts. 
Frank E. Schoonover:  An Artist for All Seasons is another exhibit from Nov. 22 to Feb. 1. The display features more than 25 paintings from every period of Schoonover's.  Frank E. Schoonover (1877-1972) is recognized as one of the most beloved and prolific illustrators of his time.  His contribution to American illustration spanned over 40 years and included more than 2,200 illustrations.  
 
Bare Witness:  Photographs by Gordon Parks
will continue through Jan. 4.The retrospective exhibition features 73 works selected by Gordon Parks (1912 - 2006) as examples of his most potent imagery.  After rising as a portrait and fashion photographer, Parks also began documenting social ills as part of the Farm Security Administration.  In 1948, he became the first African American staff photographer for Life magazine and established an international reputation for his photo essays chronicling the lives of the poor and the Civil Rights movement.  He was also an author (The Learning Tree), filmmaker (Shaft), poet, and musician, a renaissance man whose career embodies the American ideal of equality.

Theatre N theatren
 
This weekend at Theatre N, the high definition concert series will continue with The Who at Kilburn 1977 on Friday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m, Saturday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. The Saturday show is a fundraiser for Theatre N and tickets will be $30 and include food from Deep Blue, beer from Twin Lakes Brewing Company and selected wines.

Also playing is Mister Foe on Friday at 2 p.m., Saturday noon and 2:30 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. The film is David MacKenzie's offbeat adaptation of Peter Jinks's coming-of-age story which centers on the unlikely protagonist of Hallam Foe, portrayed by Jamie Bell (BILLY ELLIOT). A troubled young man beset with voyeuristic tendencies and a strong Oedipal longing for his dead mother, Hallam is a sensitive and volatile teenager who has taken to spying on Kate (Sophia Myles), an attractive hotel manager who happens to bear a striking resemblance to his late mother.
 
Jake's Corner
will play at the theatre on Sunday at noon. The movie is the story of an ex-football star, Johnny Dunn, who walked away from the game early in his career to live a relatively secluded life far from the spotlight in a small, desert town he owns called Jake's Corner.  The Corner is a rest stop for travelers making their way through the Arizona desert, but for the people who live there, it's a rest stop for life.  Johnny and the eclectic ensemble that live and work in the town occupy trailers behind the Corner Store and Jake's Corner Bar.  Through the years, this cast of misfits have become closer than most families. Johnny's quiet life is altered dramatically when a family tragedy forces him to care for his young nephew, Spence.

Comedy Cabaret 
 
After a great demand, the northern Delaware tradition of stand-up comedy comes back to life as the Comedy Cabaret returns to Wilmington this fall at The Grand. The series will continue this Saturday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m.
 
The Grand presents Comedy Cabaret in its laugh at the baby grand series, which showcases emerging stand-up comedy artists in the baby grand to complement the many headlining comics presented on The Grand mainstage. The laugh at the baby grand series presents twelve nights of The Comedy Cabaret during the 08-09 season.

DCCA Art Salad
 
The Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts (DCCA) will continue Art Salad on Wednesday, Nov. 26 with John Shipman who will discuss his work on view in Fantastical Imaginings that he states is "a reflection of what he has learned in life."

Art Salad is a free one-hour program offered from noon to 1 p.m. that features a variety of art talks and gallery tours led by artists, authors, curators, and other 'movers-and-shakers' in the contemporary art world.

Celtic Tenors
 
The Celtic Tenors will perform at The Grand on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.
 
The tenors have established themselves as the most successful Classical Crossover artists to have come out of Ireland and all had classical training, sung leading roles with top opera companies, performed in oratorio and concerts worldwide, and continue to show great flexibility in melding their voices to suit the appropriate Classical, folk, Irish and pop genres. Matthew Gilsenan, James Nelson and Daryl Simpson combine their unique voices, character and wit to provide a show flowing with vitality and variety including a holiday blend of music.
  
Christmas with The Celtic Tenors performs an eclectic mix of classical, folk, Irish and pop .

Circulation Study Workshop
 
On Tuesday, Dec. 2, Wilmington Initiatives will sponsor a Public Workshop about the Wilmington Downtown Circulation Study from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  in the Christina Ballroom at the Chase Center on the Riverfront, located at 815 Justison Street.

Interested parties can attend anytime between those hours to review the project boards and provide feedback.  A brief presentation will be repeated three times throughout the evening at 4:15, 5:15, and 6:15 p.m.  

This Downtown Circulation Study is a follow-up to the 1997 Downtown Wilmington Transportation Study, which evaluated circulation along all major routes within the downtown, and offered recommendations for multimodal improvements.  Since its completion, Wilmington's downtown has experienced significant changes in development.  The Downtown Circulation Study will evaluate all modes of transportation in downtown and offer recommendations on how to make each mode more efficient for users.

Wilmington Initiatives encourages everyone who lives, works, or plays in Wilmington to attend the workshop to learn more about the Study's goals, and provide feedback about your needs and concerns with Wilmington's transportation system.

Nonprofit management course open
 
Registration for the University of Delaware Nonprofit Management Certificate Course is open from now until Feb. 4, 2009.
 
The course is designed to provide a comprehensive and integrated approach to managing a nonprofit organization.   This 16 week course costs only $1,000, and is taught by University faculty, executives in the nonprofit industry, and management experts in the field.  Topics included are Organizational Assessment, Fiscal Oversight, Human Resource Management, Using Technology, Advocacy and Political Action, and much more.
 
Classes are held every Thursday, beginning Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Community Service Building in Downtown Wilmington.
